Smooth Shapes is a lovely laser/light vacuum roller combination treatment that feels good but unfortunately produces no real results. It does not slim or minimize, and the only thing it will smooth is your wallet as it takes your $$$. The series of treatments does not come cheap at over $1,600. I do not recommend this technology to Spa owners nor to clients.

The Titan - Does it tighten?
The Titan is a laser procedure with no down time that promises to tighten up the skin rivaling the results of a face lift. The laser works by stimulating the collagen that lies below the surface of skin. When the skin ages collagen fibers stretch resulting in sagging skin. The Titan Laser heats the collagen layer which results in it contracting and thickening. Additionally it causes the formation of minute injuries in the dermal layer of the skin. These "injuries" create the production of more collagen.
Does the Titan hurt? YES. No matter what the esthetician tells you there is a lot more to feel here than just deep heat. It hurts at the end of each laser pulse - like a toothache in your skin. It goes away quickly - just in time for you to get ready for the next pulse....ouch. The treatment can creat some minor swelling and redness but all that goes away after 24 hours. It can definitely be described as a lunch hour treatment, but is it really a facelift in a laser? No, it is not.
The enormous heat dump into the deeper layers of the skin creates some tightening over the next few months, and results are visible but minimal. In other words, you may notice an improvement in the tightness of your skin, but you may be the only one who notices. Yes, the cost is substantially less than a face lift, but so are the results.
Cost - Approximately $2,000
Is it worth it?
If you are a spa owner, you may want to wait until the next generation of this laser is available for purchase. If you are a spa client and will be satisfied with some tightening that occurs over several months after the treatment, then go for it.
Out of five stars, the Titan gets a 2 1/2.

Power Moisture On Your Lunch Hour
Another treatment that costs less but delivers noticeable results is the Hydrafacial.
The Hydrafacial is a pleasant, fast 20-minute procedure with no downtime.
The treatment offers solid "refining" capabilities and I did see
an overall improvement in skin texture. This is a good power moisture, lunch hour procedure,
which does add moisture and refreshes, but don't look for long-term or startling results.
A series of six are recommended. Costvaries, approximately $125 per facial.
I do recommend this treatment - 3 stars!

For Spa Owners & Spa Clients
So, the economy is down the drain, your 401k has dwindled, but you still want to look good?
You've come to the right blog. I have tested hundreds of products and services in the beauty industry and will give you the stright scoop on all of them. I am not paid or employed by any of these products or companies. And if you are a spa owner, you definitely want to check back to see what products and technologies are worth your investment!
***If you have a product or service you want me to experience and write about, please contact me at: pbaker@bigpictureagency.com***
The marketplace is flooded with promises. Here is something that delivers....
The Pearl is a laser treatment that treats sun damage, uneven pigment, and fine wrinkles.
It requires a topical anesthetic and at least 4 days of hiding from the rest of the world. On the pain scale, the treatment itself is about a 3, (with 10 being the most pain and 1 the least).
After the laser treatment I felt quite a bit of heat on my face and my skin color was deep pink. A thick layer of vaseline applied, which would become my new best friend, kept the heat tolerable. The initial heat actually dissipated pretty quickly, but I found when I removed the vaseline to cleanse my face per instructions, it hit like a wave in a 115 degree desert.
After three days of vaseline, I was ready to scream out loud, but was comforted by the fact that the new skin appearing was free of freckles and other sunspot irregularities, AND it was SMOOTH - super SMOOTH. On Day 5 I abandoned the vaseline, (hooray) and implented a TNS moisturizer. Result was excellent. 2 Pearl treatments are suggested to get optimum results.
I'll be booking #2 sometime this winter, (don't do it in summer). I highly recommend this treatment. This gets a rare FIVE STARS !
Cost: approximately $2,100
